What a difference... The new executive chef at Porto has made this place into an amazing restaurant.  For tapas I would recommend the tender sauted octopus, forbidden rice and corn stuffed red peppers with a bachemel cream sauce, and the chorizo flambe. Although, there’s really so many great things, it would be hard to stop writing.  - Matt F (Yelp.com)

We heard that there was a new chef and returned on the last night of Hudson Restaurant Week.  The food was SO much better than my previous review.  Steak and chicken were juicy and cooked perfectly, wine (even the house wine!) and sangria were delicious, appetizers and desserts (we each had both) were interesting, tasty and fresh (leite creme brulee with a perfect caramel top).  Our server was really nice and took the time to explain all the choices to us and give his recommendations, he knew a lot about the dishes.  The restaurant started out quiet but the bar scene started to buzz as the night went on, with good music.  We and others did have a wait between courses - I think the kitchen was overwhelmed, plus our server appeared to be handling the entire front room by himself, from seating people to busing tables.  But with food that good, I think they can improve on that easily.  They did add gratuity even to our check for 2 so just read your bill carefully.  We will definitely go back. - Jenn D (Yelp.com)

Sit out back on a nice cool day and enjoy the strong sangria and the stuffed peppers.  Holy party in your mouth.  I also loved, loved, loved, the garlic shrimp.  You may think this is a simple dish, but I’ve had some terrible garlic shrimp and this was not one of those times!! The arugula citrus salad was amazing.  It took me by surprise as Portuguese establishments I’ve been to can only seem to make a typical salad at best.  I didn’t love the meatballs, a little dry for my taste, but the other small plates more than made up for it.

Our waitress was lovely and willing to chat it up with my friend and I and Porto gets points for that.  Dining out is as much about atmosphere as it is about food.  - Mercy A (Yelp.com)
